Stinging insects can conjure up nightmares in peoples minds.  Besides the intense pain that a sting can cause, allergic reactions to stings can have severe medical implications.  While a significant amount of respect should be given to these insects, their presence doesn’t always call for outright fear.  Bees, hornets and wasps can range from being colonized with a central nest, to being completely solitary.  The more organized, colonized species tend to be extremely defensive of their nest (and their queen), and these nests should be approached with extreme caution.  Solitary species on the other hand tend to have very little aggression (as there is no nest to protect, and no workers to do the protecting).  Because of the physical pain, and medical problems that stinging insects can cause, contacting a professional is strongly recommended before attempting any type of treatment.
